On Friday night I took my 4-year-old to the opening night of Holiday Lights at Lake Compounce. He was so excited that we were going to an amusement park in the winter and in the dark. I was pretty excited, too!
I can remember going to Lake Compounce several times when I was younger, in fact it’s North America’s oldest amusement park – how neat! This time the experience was way different. The park was beautifully decorated with hundreds of thousands of holiday lights! It was surreal.
It was so much more than just lights though. Many of the family and kiddie rides were open or you could take a train ride around the lake on the North Pole Railway. You could watch ice sculptor’s in action or listen to carolers. If you wanted to warm up a bit you could head indoors to grab a bite to eat, take a picture with Santa, decorate cookies, make a gingerbread house or get some holiday shopping done. You could also help your kids write a letter to Santa and have him mail them a response back, right to your house!
Lake Compounce did such a great job putting this together, it was hard to believe that this was their first year hosting Holiday Lights!
I hope to make this a holiday tradition and I can’t wait to head back next year with the whole family in tow!
Disclosure: We received our admission into the park for free as a part of media night, as always all opinions are my own.
