4 Great Summer Fitness Challenges

I’ve been coming across a bunch of fitness challenges recently and I wanted to share them with you! I am always more motivated to exercise when it is a part of a challenge! So here they are:

The Mamavation #2weekchallenge - This is mamavation’s 9th installment of the #2weekchallenge. I have participated in the past and have seen great results.  It starts on July 2nd and it requires you to tweet @MrBookieboo who is very encouraging and supportive! There is also optional nutritional support.

Diets in Review is hosting Courtney Crozier’s 10 Week Summer Challenge.  You might remember Courtney from The Biggest Loser, she was one of my favorites! I did this challenge last summer and it’s one of my favorites.  It is not only fitness challenges, some weeks there will be nutritional and mental challenges. It just started today, so you should check it out!

Tara Burner is having a Plank, Push Up & Squat challenge. It’s a pretty straight forward challenge, just do one of the exercises everyday for the month of July! She has a downloadable calendar so you can record your progress and encourages you to tweet with her (@TaraBurner) for support.

Mom 365 is having a 5 Day Summer Fitness Challenge. They are having a different mom fitness blogger come up with a challenge for each day! This challenge just started and looks like it’s going to be fun!

Mamavation Monday

mondaysgraphicwbrown1

This week I found it a little bit difficult to get a lot of my planned exercises in, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t busy! I wanted to get a good chunk of my challenges done but I only ended up doing one day of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred.

This week was my 3 year olds first week of summer vacation. Plus, my husband was getting ready for and leaving for a work conference and my niece who I usually watch 3 or 4 days a week wasn’t here so our schedule was all sorts of off!

We kept busy by going to the beach, the museum, swimming and cleaning (ugh) and on Saturday we did a 5K! My 3 year old did a kids fun run too and I was so proud of him! You can read about it and check out pictures here.

Here’s an update on the challenges I’m working on, even though not much has changed since last week.:

C25K – finished through week 8 day 3

100 Pushups – finished through week 3 day 2

Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred – finished through week 2 day 1

100 Day Burpee Challenge – finished 11/8/11 !

My goal for this week is to work on my challenges, I would love to finish C25K!

5K Recap

This weekend I ran in an Irish Festival 5K with my sister.  My husband was out of town for a work conference so my boys came with me in the double jogger.  They had a kids fun run before the 5K so I signed my 3 year old up, the 6 and under kids had to run .35 miles.  He was a little nervous about it but I ran along side him on the side line and he really had fun! I was so proud of him.  They gave all the kids a ribbon for finishing plus they all got t-shirts and run bibs!

5k

After the fun run we loaded him in the stroller with his brother and waited for the 5K to start.  He hates riding in strollers and is usually adamant about not going in. So, I did what any good mother would do, I bribed him! I offered him a trip to the museum, swimming at his grandma’s and face painting at the Irish fest.  Thank God it worked!

So the race began and first I started feeling the heat, it was HOT outside. 90 degrees to be exact! Then, I started feeling the weight of the stroller.  I am not used to running with the stroller and it should have dawned of me ahead of time to go out a few times for trial runs! Luckily my sister was there and we kept passing it back and forth but, between the stroller and the heat we just could not run the entire thing! We did finish though, it took us about 42 minutes.  So sadly I have not completed my goal of doing a 5K and running the whole thing, but that just means I have to keep trying!

We got free admittance into the Irish Festival for doing the 5K and despite the heat we had fun! (Even though there was no face painting!)

Doesn’t he look so happy with his frozen lemonade?

The House My Mom Built

2012-06-21 18.04.07Last weekend while I was hiking with my sister to celebrate her birthday, my 3 year old was spending the day with his “Gaga”.  “Gaga” is the nickname he gave my mom when he started talking and it has stuck, in fact my sister and I now refer to her as “Gaga” and she refers to herself as “Old Lady Gaga”.  Lol!

Anyways, back to the story, while he was there he found an old dollhouse that had belonged to my sister and I when we were little.  My mom built it for us one year for Christmas, a beautiful blue farmhouse.  They cleaned it up and ordered some new furniture on Etsy. (He thought it was going to pop out of the computer once they ordered it!!)

We went to her house for dinner last night and the furniture had come in and my boys had a great time playing with it.  The 3 year old set up furniture and the 1 year old drove cars all over it! I loved seeing it again and it made me think of when I was little and I would spend hours setting up furniture and rearranging it.  I always wanted to live in a house just like it.  Mostly because it had stairs and the house I grew up in did not!

Mamavation Monday: Great Heights

mondaysgraphicwbrown1

I hope everyone had a great week! This was my son’s last week of preschool and they had a cute little graduation ceremony for the kids on Friday. It was really cute, they even got little graduation caps for all the kids!  He will still be in preschool next year but since he goes to a Montessori school, all the different age groups do everything together.

Saturday was my sister’s birthday and she wanted to celebrate by taking a hike.  We decided to go to Bear Mountain which is part of the Appalachian Trail and borders CT, MA and NY.  It is also the highest peak in Connecticut! It was a long, strenuous hike and I’m really proud of myself for doing it! It took about 4.5 hours and I got close to 17,000 steps in!

This was the view from the top, it was breathtaking! You could see all three states!

This week will be spent trying to work out a schedule for us now that my 3 year old will be home all day, I’m hoping that I will still be able to run but I think the majority of it will take place in the gym now.  Which, I think will be good, it has been really humid and it’s been a little hard to breathe when I’m out running!

Here’s where I’m at with the challenges I’m working on:

C25K – finished through week 8 day 3

100 Pushups – finished through week 3 day 2

Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred – finished through week 2 day 1

100 Day Burpee Challengefinished 11/8/11 !

I didn’t get a lot done as far as my challenges go, so my goal this week will be to chip away at my challenges and drink more water.

Last Thursday we took the boys out to dinner with my mother and sister and after seeing a beautiful double rainbow out of the restaurant while we were eating, we got to see this gorgeous sunset on the way home!

WIN! Bondi Band Review & Giveaway

I love head bands but they do not love me.  They always seem to slip off my head and I am constantly readjusting them or taking them off.  I was about to give up all hope until I decided to order a Bondi Band.  Their “No Slip, No Drip” slogan is definitely the truth! Not only did the headband fit comfortably, it did not slip out of place and it kept the sweat from running down my face and into my eyes.  Plus, they are so versatile! They are unisex, they can be worn on their own or under hats, helmets and visors. Also, they use a stretchy, breathable material that allows them to fit virtually any head size and shape (even my non-headband loving head!).

Here is a terrible picture of me, on my post run cool-down walk with the “sunburst” fashion Bondi Band.  I did not have to readjust it once while running! They also have “No Slip, No Drip” moisture wicking headbands that are great to wick away sweat in warm weather, they can keep hair back and ear buds in your ears and in colder weather they are great to keep your ears warm!2012-06-10 08.50.45

Here I am all cleaned up, with another fashion Bondi Band in “Wendy

2012-06-10 11.17.34

I just love these! AND since they offer customized products they are great to order for race teams or to give as gifts! I am going to order some matching ones for my sister and I for an upcoming race!

Bondi Bands are 100% American made and they donate 10% of pretax profits to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Don’t they sound awesome? Don’t you want to win one? Well you are in luck! Bondi Band has sent me a fashion (lycra) headband in “peanut” to give to one lucky winner!

Mamavation Monday

mondaysgraphicwbrown1

This has been a great week!  I really made an effort to eat a good, nutritious breakfast every morning and I also made sure to snack twice a day.  This made a huge difference in how hungry I felt at night and I didn’t chow down before bed nearly as much as I had been.

I also did a lot of work on my blog this week.  I made a facebook page and I also got to host my very first sponsored giveaway! ::cough:: enter here ::cough. Plus, I have another giveaway in the works that should be up this week.

This weekend we’ve been working on fixing up a boat that we bought.  It has a little cabin underneath it so we can take little overnight trips with the boys and it will be just like camping, but on the water! It needs a lot of cleaning but we are almost done and I can’t wait to spend some quality family time on it this summer!

I also was able to work on my challenges this week and here is where I am at with them:

C25K – finished through week 8 day 2

100 Pushups – finished through week 3 day 2

Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred – finished through week 2 day 1

100 Day Burpee Challenge – finished 11/8/11 !

I hope this week is as productive as last week!

Mamavation Monday

mondaysgraphicwbrown1

I didn’t do a Mamavation Monday post last week on Memorial Day and I feel like I haven’t posted in forever!

My sister and I participated in the Color Me Rad 5K on 5/26.  It was so much fun! It wasn’t timed and we didn’t keep track so I have no idea how I did, which is fine!  We decided that we were going to do one 5K a month from now on.  I’m totally excited about that.  I also got to meet Mamavation Mom Wendy, from The Weight is Over who also did the race that day!

This week I really need to focus on my nutrition.  I haven’t been eating enough during the day and then around dinner time I completely start pigging out for the rest of the night.  So I am really looking forward to Healthy Jasmine on Mamavation TV this week talking about healthy snacks! I will be taking notes.

Here is where I am at with my challenges, I would really like to do them more often!

C25K – finished through week 7 day 3

100 Pushups – finished through week 3 day 1

Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred – finished week 1

100 Day Burpee Challenge – finished 11/8/11 !
