FITWEEK Returns to Greater New Haven & Fairfield County

Last year I participated in FITWEEK and I have been looking forward to it ever since! It’s really a win-win-win event.  You get to go out and try different fitness activities and get your sweat on, while local businesses host a week long open house for potential new customers.  Plus, all the proceeds benefit the Closer to Free Fund!

The event last year left me with an awesome feeling of empowerment.  I faced my fear of heights at an indoor rock climbing class and I even made it through a whole Crossfit W.O.D! I am so excited for this year and I think I might even try class at Air Temple Arts, a circus studio that offers a variety of aerial dance, circus and yoga classes. Eeee!

I totally, 100% recommend FITWEEK to everyone! Whether you need to shake up your current workout routine, find some motivation to start exercising, or step out of your shell and try something new – there’s something for everyone!

Check out more details below:

The 2nd annual fitness event, hosted by FITWEEK, will take place September 30th- October 6th at participating gyms and fitness studios located in Greater New Haven and Fairfield Counties. The Fitweek Pass will be available for purchase on Friday, September 6th through the FITWEEK website, Log on to to receive fabulous fitness tips and videos from FITWEEK Founder, Shana Schneider, and to be notified when the FITWEEK Pass becomes available. Brew Over Ice Review & Giveaway!

disclosure – I received products in order to facilitate this review, as always, all opinions are my own.

My Keurig gets a lot of attention year round, but in the summertime there is nothing more refreshing than an iced tea or iced coffee.  I’ve tried countless times making my own from the regular K-cups, but it’s always a little blah.  So, I was really excited to try out the Brew Over Ice K-cups and they sent me a Snapple Peach Iced Tea one! Way back in high school, before I liked coffee (I know, can you believe it?) Snapple Peach Iced Tea was my jam!

The Brew Over Ice K-cups were just as easy to use as the regular k-cups.  You literally just brew them in to a cup of ice! I stirred mine up afterwards because a lot of the ice melts so only the top half is super cold.  So, I stirred it up and added some more ice.  It was still super flavorful! I actually enjoyed it more than the premade Snapple from the store.  They really pack in the flavor to compensate for how watered down it gets when the ice melts.  I love these!

Right now, Brew Over Ice has a coupon up on their site for $2 off a box!  And, while you are there you can enter the Brew Over Ice Sweepstakes to win great prizes, including the grand prize of $10,000!!

But wait, there’s more! (hehe) I am also having a giveaway! I have an awesome Brew Over Ice prize pack to give away to one lucky reader!

Date Nights, Adult Acne & An Amusement Park–Monday Update

This is the last full week of summer vacation before my oldest son starts Kindergarten!!! Unfortunately, I am sick. Last week was great though and I am not super duper sick at the moment so I am hoping it passes2013-08-12 12.19.35 quickly.

We had a great time camping and last Monday, the day after we got back, I had my first appointment at the Dermatologist.  Back in April my skin started breaking out pretty badly and after months of blaming stress, food and trying different products, I decided it was time for medical intervention! Plus, it had gotten so painful.

I love my new dermatologist, especially since her first question was if it could be food related.  I had ruled that out on my own over the past few months so she prescribed me an antibiotic and hydrocortisone cream for the pain. I’m ready to see this stuff clear up!!

Tuesday my little guy woke up with a fever and was kind of sluggish all day (kind of how I am feeling now!) So we didn’t really do much. After dinner my oldest son and I walked up to the town green for the Summer Concert Series.  He looks forward to it every week and the little one was perfectly happy with staying home and going to bed early.

On Wednesday, I took the kids to my MIL’s house for dinner while my husband went to his fantasy football draft.  I finally got to have some Plum Tomato Pizza from Salerno’s in Stratford! – Okay so they had only been making it for 2 days so far this season when I got to have some, but I look forward to it every year!

Thursday my mom came over at night to watch the boys so we could head out for Date Night!! We went to dinner at Bodega Taco Bar with another couple – double date night – even better! It was our first time there and the food was awesome, and so was the Watermelon-Mint Margarita drink special! I had guacamole and chips, roasted beets, a mahi mahi taco and my favorite of the night– a slow cooked pork taco. So yummy, so yummy.

2013-08-16 16.16.18

Friday, we visited Jones Family Farm for their weekly farmer’s market.  It was a beautiful day and they had a folk band playing.  I grabbed a bunch of fresh produce and a loaf of bacon, cheddar & caramelized onion bread from the Liquid Lunch stand.

…And the next morning I made some awesome egg sandwiches with all my fresh goods!

Afterwards we headed off for a fun day at Quassy Amusement Park! The kids had so much fun and my little guy even rode some rides – he is usually too scared!

2013-08-17 13.36.43

…And after a very long day, we went home and got ready for another date night! How exciting, right? Two in one week! It was for a friends birthday so there was a big group of us.

Plus, it was at another restaurant I had never been to – Barcelona.  I’ve always heard great things about them so I was excited.  They had a great selection of beer and wine, I went with an Allagash White.  My husband and I ordered 5 different tapas to share, my favorites were the Steak Paillard and the Chicken Empanadas. I was so full! We ended out the night with some dancing at BAR. Good times!

2013-08-17 20.50.08

It was nice to just relax on Sunday!

This week I hope to get all the back to school shopping done and get over this bug I have!

How was your week?

The Boy’s First Concert

On Thursday, I won a pair of tickets to Danbury Fields Forever, a Beatles music festival held at Ives Concert Park.  Kids 5 and under were free and since we are a whole family of Beatles fans I thought it would be fun to take the boys! Being 4 & 2 they have never been to a real concert before, although we do frequent the free summer-series concerts held on our town green.  This was a little bit bigger scale!

It was dark and rainy all morning, but the boys couldn’t wait to get to the show! The sun came out at almost the exact time we got into Danbury and the weather was pretty perfect for the rest of the day and - the park was beautiful! I can’t believe I lived in nearby Newtown for the majority of my life and had never visited it before.

ives stage

There were 10 Beatles cover bands lined up to play during the 8 hour festival.  I heard all my favorite songs and I don’t think I heard the same song twice! – Also, how awesome is the giant gazebo stage?

There was also a bunch of other stuff going on!bounce houseThere were two huge bounce houses. They were in the perfect spots too, I got a nice view of the stage while my boys bounced to their heart’s content!

My big boy got his face painted like Batman. (Very exciting!)

hula hoops

Hula hoops – Fun for all!

sidewalk chalk

…and a ton of sidewalk chalk!

There were a bunch of vendors selling food, clothing, artwork, CDs & more.  Overall, it was a great day and I would say my boy’s first concert/music festival was a roaring success!
