Gorton’s Seafood is Wicked Good!

Disclosure: I received free product in order to facilitate this review, as always all opinions are my own.

Our family has always been a fan of Gorton’s Seafood.  My kids love their fish sticks, even my super picky son eats them right up.  Recently, we tried some of their other products and can’t complain. Everything was delish!

My favorite was the Simply Bake Tilapia.  It was so easy! Just open the box and pop one or two of the individual pouches in the oven. They bake right inside the bag with all the seasonings.  tilapia

I baked two of them and turned them into soft shell fish tacos topped with, sour cream, cheese, arugula, tomatoes, red onion & avocado. They were so yummy and satisfying!

Give A Minute, Help Make-A-Wish with Straight Talk

I participated in this sponsored campaign for One2One Network. All opinions stated are my own.

Every Saturday in September, Straight Talk Wireless will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish for each person that visits their participating local Walmart and takes a minute to learn more about Straight Talk.  They will donate a minimum of $500,000 to Make-A-Wish and up to $1,000,000.

If you can’t make it out to Walmart or you don’t have a nearby location, you can take a minute to visit this page and share the video via social media. From now until September 28, every time it's shared, Straight Talk Wireless will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish!

This is the second year in a row that Straight Talk will be hosting this program. Last year’s program was very successful, reaching its $1,000,000 donation mark!

My mom recently switched to Straight Talk wireless and absolutely loves it! Straight Talk is a service provided by TracFone Wireless Inc., they work with existing wireless networks nationwide to provide no-contract wireless phone service.

Straight Talk has all of the same great phones as the contract carries, including name brands like Samsung, Apple, Windows and LG. It is available exclusively at Walmart and the cost savings of not having to maintain stores is passed directly on to customers. So, they have the same phones and the same networks for a fraction of the price.

Straight Talk believes there is nothing greater than granting a sick child’s wish. They are thrilled to be able to be part of making that happen again this year.

Please click here, share the video & help grant a wish.

Strut Moms–The Fashionable Mom Show #MBFW 2013

Last Saturday, after an awesome dinner at The Smith Restaurant & Bar with my mom, we headed over to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center.  After doing some people-watching in the plaza we checked in for the Strut Moms fashion show.

The Strut show was presented by The Moms, Denise Albert and Melissa Musen Gerstein in collaboration with Stephanie Winston Wolkhoff.  All of the show’s models were Moms from all walks of life who were strutting for a cause.  Each one was walking the runway in support of a charity of their choice.

Celebrity mom Amber Sabathia looked absolutely gorgeous walking the runway in support of the PitCCh in Foundation. Also, many of the kids walking the runway were rocking clothes from her very own signature CCandy line featuring colorful and unique Major League Sports themed clothing for kids.  You really have to check out the clothes, they are so fun and colorful!

Another model, an ambassador for Cottonelle (one of the shows main sponsors) strutted down the runway in a dress by “Cottonelle Couture… aka it was made completely out of toilet paper! It was a pretty cute dress and I actually had no idea it was made out of toilet paper until I read this post written by the woman who modeled it.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a great picture of it, but there are a few in that post!

The Moms, Denise and Melissa were also showing off their new line of handbags that are going to be available soon. The Musen Albert handbags will be a perfect blend of fashion and functionality for a 24/7 lifestyle.  I can’t wait to see the entire line!

It was a great day in the city with my fashion-obsessed mom! I hope we can do it all again next year!

…Oh, and did I mention the whole show was deejayed by a 10 year old? How adorable is DJ Fulano?! Great work, kid.

Ease Your Allergies Naturally With AllergEase

Disclosure: I received a sample of AllergEase in order to facilitate this review.  As always all opinions are my own

Well it finally happened to me, I knew it was coming.  Everyone around me was sniffling and sneezing. Then, this morning the allergies struck me down too.  I woke up and my head was pounding and my whole face hurt (my husband likesallergease to make a, “well it’s killing me!” joke every time I say my face hurts!) I really just didn’t want to do anything except stay in bed.  Luckily I had recently received a sample of AllergEase All Natural Herbal Supplement.

I popped one of the lozenges in and almost immediately the menthol and lemon cleared my head.  Not only was my head feeling better, AllergEase’s blend of herbs promotes a healthy immune response in high irritant environments.  So, not only do the lozenges help you feel better, they help you stay better.  Plus, they do all of this naturally.

AllergEase was created by a medical doctor looking for alternatives to help his family and friends.  They are made from a blend of herbs and other ingredients such as organic honey and organic lemon oil. Oh, and did I mention they also taste good?

You can find these tasty lozenges at CVS, Walgreens & Duane Reade for just $5.99 a box.

The Smith Restaurant & Bar in Lincoln Center NYC

It was a beautiful day in NYC yesterday.  I always love this part of the year when summer transitions into fall and you’re left with these not too hot, not too cold, just right days.  My mother and I took the train into the city for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

We gave ourselves plenty of time to grab a bite to eat before the show.  I had made reservations for an early dinner at The Smith’s Lincoln Center location and I am so glad I did! The food and service were excellent; we had our dinner & drinks within 20 minutes of entering the restaurant.

Although I am normally a beer girl, I just had to order the Sonata No. 5 cocktail when I read the description. “elderflower cordial / fresh mint / local honey / lavender bitters / sparkling wine” OMG. Pretty much all of my favorite things in a glass. It was dangerously good.  My mom ordered the house Sauvignon Blanc, which was a 2012 Ant Moore from New Zealand – also delish! We love those NZ Sauvignon Blancs!

For dinner, my mom got the Salmon Tartare Tacos – raw salmon with spicy sauce, avocados & nori salad served on a crispy shell.  It’s technically an appetizer so she also ordered some mixed greens with The Smith’s house dressing.  She said the greens were so fresh and flavorful that they hardly needed any dressing.  As for the tacos, I believe the term “I’ve died and gone to heaven,” was used.

I had the Roasted Chicken Salad, which had perfectly delicious roasted chicken that was shredded and served with arugula, thinly sliced green apples, candied walnuts, chunks of creamy brie and just enough grilled onions.  It was lightly dressed with, I believe, fresh lemon juice.  It was the perfect addition of flavor to the salad without overpowering it.  The whole thing was pretty much amazing and I’m a little sad that I can’t have it every single day.

So then this happened.  I mean, how can you say no to an old-fashioned hot fudge sundae when you are at a restaurant with amazing food? You know it’s going to be amazing! And it was. Rich and creamy vanilla ice cream layered with warm, gooey, hot fudge, topped with real whipped cream, a cherry and a piece of dark chocolate and almond bark to boot. Yes, totally worth it!

After my mom watched me chow down on my sundae, we used the nice, clean, restrooms at The Smith and headed off to Lincoln Center, which was directly across the street. Score! I didn’t even know that when I made the reservations!

Stay tuned for my recap of the fashion show we attended!

The Smith has 3 locations through out New York City and they are open “Early ‘til Late” Visit their website for more information.

Family Fun at Westport’s Blues, Views & BBQ

On Saturday, my mother and I took my youngest son to the 6th Annual Blues, Views & BBQ festival in downtown Westport, CT.  It was the perfect way to celebrate the last weekend of summer (although, I’m still hoping for a couple more warm weekends!)

As soon as we arrived my little guy made a bee line right for the bouncy houses.  They had some really cool ones set up for the big kids like a mechanical bull and an American Gladiators-esque arena.  I was extremely thankful, however, that they had a smaller obstacle course inflatable set up for the younger kids! It was located in the back near the School of Rock stage. So, my son was able to bounce to his heart’s content while my mother and I got to listen to some extremely talented kids belt out classic rock tunes. Seriously, they were really, really, good.

After bouncing we checked out the awesome bubble station where the kids could blow their own big bubbles or even get inside a huge bubble! How awesome, isn’t that every little kid’s dream!?  There was also a hilarious magician and face painting!

The little guy was thoroughly tired-out at this point so we headed for the main stage! We caught nearly the whole set of Sugar Ray & The Bluetones – so good. Our friends who attend every year said the bands are always top-notch and they were really looking forward to seeing Royal Southern Brotherhood later that night.

Next, we headed off to check out the food and beverages. I was happy to see Bar Q, who I have written about before and Bobby Q’s which is owned by the same person, was also in attendance. There were plenty of options other than BBQ, too. Like lobster rolls from Blue Lemon, Melt Mobile sandwiches, The Local Meatball, Dave & Jerry’s hot dogs, Winnie’s Jerk, Rita’s Italian ice & Rolling Cones ice cream. I grabbed a Magic Hat Summer Ale from the tap truck – it was a hot day and it really hit the spot!

On our way out we stopped by the CT Bites tent.  They were hosting chef demos from local restaurants throughout the day.  I was excited to check it out because I attended a CT Bites beer dinner (at Bar Q!) a few months ago and it was a blast! Chef Judy Roll from Tabouli Grill was cooking up little tuna patties served over a pomegranate slaw – O.M.G. it was so flavorful! I need to get to this restaurant for dinner ASAP.

Despite the overcast, muggy weather, it was a beautiful day along the banks of the Saugatuck river.  This festival will most likely be a Labor Day Weekend tradition in our family for years to come!
